Working with Living Oceans Society and The Regional District of Mount Waddington local government, Sarah Klain used map-based interviews to identify ecosystem services and cultural values. This region is part of the Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area (PNCIMA) where marine spatial planning is underway. Our analysis and mapping highlight places of particular importance to 30 people who live across the study region whose professions depend on the ocean.
Perceptions of value and threat varied considerably across the seascape. Income-related, non-monetary, and threat values were correlated spatially. A minority of respondents refused to map and quantify importance.
