Alejandra Echeverri makes an intervention at COP13 in Cancún
After presenting with Kai in the Science Forum at the 13th Conference of the Parties (for the Convention on Biological Diversity) in Cancún, Mexico, Alejandra made an intervention to the Parties on behalf of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network. Ale’s intervention made several great points, including the need to mainstream biodiversity throughout whole supply chains, to extend beyond the current focus on fisheries, forestry, agriculture and tourism (to include mining, fossil-fuel development, infrastructure, etc.).
Ashli Akins joins CHANS Lab as a PhD student
Ashli works in Peru, including with the NGO she founded, Mosqoy. She’s in her third year at the Interdisciplinary Studies Graduate Program and the Liu Institute, co-supervised by Wade Davis (Anthropology, Liu Institute for Global Issues) and with committee members Mark Turin (First Nations & Endangered Languages, Anthropology) and Nancy Turner (Environmental Studies, UVic). She holds a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, and she is a Liu Scholar and a member of UBC’s Public Scholars Initiative.
